Frequently asked questions

Is the JRC XTX a baitrunner or free spool reel?

No, the JRC XTX is a front-drag longcast reel, not a baitrunner or free spool model. The drag is set at the front of the spool and it has an anti-reverse on and off switch, so there is no secondary free spool system. If you want a free spool reel for bottom-bait carp fishing, look at the JRC Contact CR or DR instead.

What sizes and gear ratios does the JRC XTX come in?

The JRC XTX comes in three sizes: 6000LC, 8000 and 10000. The 6000LC runs a 4.8:1 gear ratio for a slightly faster retrieve, while the 8000 and 10000 use a 4.3:1 ratio that gives more cranking power for the larger spools. All three carry a machined, braid-ready aluminium spool.

Is the JRC XTX suitable for long-range carp fishing?

Yes, the XTX is built for long-range fishing. It uses a long cast spool design and a balanced rotor for optimal line lay, which together help you gain distance and lay line evenly on the cast. The larger 8000 and 10000 sizes hold more line, making them the better choice for fishing at range on big pits.

What line should I load on the JRC XTX?

Load the XTX with monofilament or braid, as the machined aluminium spool is braid-ready. For most carp fishing, 12 to 15lb mono suits the 8000 and 10000 sizes. If you fish braid for extra distance, add a few turns of mono backing first to stop the braid slipping on the spool. Use the two line clips to fix your casting range.

What rod should I pair with the JRC XTX?

Pair the XTX with a carp rod of around 3 to 3.5lb test curve for long-range work. A big-pit style reel like the XTX balances well on a 12ft distance rod, letting you make the most of the long cast spool. For the 6000LC on shorter or stalking setups, a lighter 2.75 to 3lb rod works well.

What are the main features of the JRC XTX?

The JRC XTX combines a lightweight graphite body with a machined, braid-ready aluminium spool and an aluminium handle. A long cast spool design and balanced rotor give distance and even line lay, while two line clips let you fix your range. An anti-reverse on and off switch and a JRC branded front drag knob complete the reel.
